IT could be lonely being the only girl in a class full of boys. But when you can play football and basketball along with the best of them, there's really nothing to worry about.

At least not for seven-year-old Jessica Degville, who has the distinction of being the only girl among the 25 pupils in the entire junior department at Delamere Primary School.

Headteacher Penny Luker said the youngster is coping brilliantly.

She said: "Jessica doesn¹t have any problems with it at all. Fortunately she has a bright, sparky personality, and just treats all the boys as friends."

Mrs Luker said she had no idea why the school has so many boys.

"There has always been a tendency towards boys. It doesn¹t cause any problems because at their age, they are all simply friends.

"We are a very friendly school, and everyone gets on with everyone else."
