BOROUGH MP Andrew Miller joined members of the Equinox Explorer unit of Ellesmere Port & Neston District Scouts for a tea party with the Speaker of the House of Commons.

They were given a tour of Parliament before enjoying tea with Mr Miller in the magnificent surroundings of the Speaker’s apartments.

One of the party, Christopher Leadbetter, a Scout from Great Sutton, said: “It was a great experience to come to visit the Houses of Parliament. Scouting is all about adventure and trying new experiences. Our visit certainly reflected that!”

Mr Miller MP said: “I was delighted to meet some of the Scouts from my constituency and am pleased that they were given the opportunity to attend such a special event.

“It is clear that Scouting continues to be very relevant today, providing young people with opportunities to try out new adventures, from climbing Everest, to trying snowboarding, to working with their community. I wish them and The Scout Association the very best of luck in the future.”

Speaking at the event, Chief Scout Peter Duncan, said: “I hope the parliamentarians will agree that Scouting is creating a better world through its work with young people, and has a clear role in encouraging young people to make a positive difference to their communities and to the world.”
