AN announcement about the future of a Winsford school could be made within a month.

Town and borough councillor Charlie Parkinson has been notified by the local government ombudsman that an independent investigator will be assigned to review the case for closing Handley Hill Primary.

“We could hear within four weeks but it could also take up to 26, but we’d like to think we’ll have a decision by the time the children go back to school,” said Cllr Parkinson.

The school was earmarked for closure in June last year as part of Cheshire County Council’s Transforming Learning Communities (TLC) review. The referral of the case to the ombudsman is the final throw of the dice for campaigners fighting to keep it open.
