TWO Mid Cheshire special schools are taking on a 12-month “eco-challenge” to become cleaner, greener and leaner in 2009.

The Russet School Weaverham and Oaklands in Winsford are teaming up with United Utilities and environmental charity Groundwork to make the grade in the Eco-Schools Award Scheme – by saving energy, reducing waste and cutting bills.

Schools work toward gaining one of three awards – bronze or silver, or the coveted Green Flag award.
