CHARITIES can bank on a helping hand thanks to staff at NatWest.
NatWest staff from the Wrexham and Deeside areas donated more than £24,949 to charity in 2005 through the bank's Give As You Earn scheme with Welsh charities benefiting by more than £76,781 under the programme.
Generous staff have been supporting charities and community organisations by giving directly from their pay packets each
month, and NatWest has been 'double matching' any contribution they make.
Local charities received more than £24,949 from staff donations in the last financial year.
Some 31 locally-based charities are benefiting including Tenovus, Care for the Family, Leukaemia Research Appeal for Wales and Ty Hafan.
Commenting on the scheme, Jon Fox, Regional Managing Dir-
ector for NatWest in Wales, said: 'Payroll giving is a highly effective way to donate to charity. Money is taken from the employer and NatWest's scheme means that for every pound donated through the pay packet the Bank will donate a further £2 (maximum £200 per month per person).'
Staff can give to any organ-isation as long as it is of charitable status or an organisation, such as a school, hospital or youth scheme, which is eligible for tax efficient donations.
