A VALE businesswoman is joining the move to save Wrexham FC.

Stephanie Booth, of Corwen, is a key player in the bid by car sales boss Neville Dickens to take over the struggling football club.

"If this plan goes ahead then there is a great future for Wrexham and the area as a whole. The football club is a very important part of the community," she said.

Mrs Booth has already been spending a great deal of time on the project. She has been integral in drawing up a business plan that would bolster the way the club is run.

"Wrexham is the only Football League club in North Wales. There is a lot that can be done to improve the running of things while still making sure that it remains true to its roots."

There have been widespread concerns about the future of the Racecourse ground.

Mrs Booth said that under the proposals she is involved in, Wrexham FC would stay and the stadium would be improved. She saw more events being held at the Racecourse such as music concerts and conferences.

She wants to get involved in the project because of her love for North Wales and she sees a successful Wrexham FC as being in a position to do a lot of good for the region.

Mrs Booth had praise for the team's manger Denis Smith, saying that he was a great asset to the club and had shown tremendous loyalty under very difficult circumstances.

"Denis could certainly have gone elsewhere for more money than he is getting at Wrexham. But he has made the decision to stay," she said.

Mrs Booth said that she hoped the bid led by Mr Dickens would bring about a renaissance for Wrexham FC both on and off the pitch.
