WREXHAM'S winter wonderland was unveiled at the weekend.

Dashing through the snow, Santa arrived at Queen's Square on his magical sleigh to meet Wrexham mayor Cllr Aled Roberts, before officially opening Santa's Grotto and the new Queen's Square Ice Rink, and switching on the town's Christmas lights.

The £20,000 rink's surface will be continually coated with glycol, which gives a smooth skating experience just like ice, and markets and town centre manager Ken Barney has urged Wrexham's residents to get their skates on in the runup to Christmas.

'Come along in your lunch hour, bring your children for a weekend treat, join in the fun on a corporate event, or simply skate away those pre-Christmas blues,' he said.

'With trained staff on hand to give you a few tips on staying on your feet, it doesn't matter if you have never skated before.

'The rink is only here until December 22 so you need to get your skates on.' Charges are £3 for adults, £2 for children under 12, £8 for a family ticket (one adult and three children or two adults and two children) and include skate hire, tuition and 30 minutes on the ice.
