A WREXHAM teenager has beaten contestants from all over Wales to scoop the first prize in St John Ambulance Wales’s top youth competition.

Sally Bottomley, 16, gave a series of consistent, outstanding performances during a weekend of practical and mental challenges in Builth Wells.

A panel of judges named Sally Cadet of the Year, after she scored top marks.

In the coming year Sally will have the opportunity to meet members of the royal family, travel overseas and represent St John Wales’s 2,500 youth members.

Sally said: “I’m really pleased to have won the award – but really shocked! The standard among everyone was so high. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and visiting new places.”

Dr Bob Broughton, chief commander St John Wales, said: “This competition is an excellent showcase for the hard work the cadets have put in and the skills they have developed through their time with St John Wales.”

Sally will take over as Cadet of the Year on January 1.
