STRUGGLING Caersws slipped deeper into relegation danger after being edged out by their basement rivals at the Recreation Ground.

Jason Sadler’s angled strike in the first half proved enough to separate the sides as Porthmadog lifted themselves clear of the danger zone.

It left the Bluebirds anxiously looking over their shoulders, with manager Mickey Evans admitting his side’s lack of strikepower is a concern as they head for Llanelli today.

“At the moment we can’t buy a goal,” he said. “We had scrambles, but nothing to show from them.

“Confidence is a bit low at the moment, but we’ve just got to stick at it and look for that win.”

The game’s ony goal came on 21 minutes when Carl Owen broke down the left.

His cross was pushed out by keeper Andy Mulliner but Sadler reacted well at the far post to steer his shot into the net from a tight angle. For most part, there was little between the two sides in a cagey game of few chances on a dry surface.

Caersws rarely suggested they could find a way back despite a couple of openings in the second half, the best of which saw Lloyd Grist head wide.

The appearance of substitute Damien Currier gave the Bluebirds greater attacking presence, but there was no end result with Neil Mitchell and Chris Venables also sending efforts off target.

Port went close in the latter stages with Owen seeing an effort cleared off the line while Mulliner made a good save from Sadler.

Victory came as something of a relief for Port, who can breathe more easily following a tough few weeks.

But the Bluebirds still have plenty to do if they are to maintain their league status.
