WREXHAM number two Kevin Russell says team spirit will ensure Dragons players stay positive despite results going against the club yesterday.

With Denis Smith's side inactive because of international call-ups and the usual spate of injuries, the drawbridge to League One safety was raised again.

Oldham stunned promotion-chasing Hull 1-0 and the MK Dons won by the same score at Bournemouth, Wrexham's next opponents, to leave the Dragons marooned eight points from safety.

"We have the two games in hand which is important," said Russell yesterday. "But every game is crucial for us now.

"Torquay lost, Stockport lost and Peterborough drew which is good for us. And Walsall lost again. They haven't won for five games and we're hoping to drag them into it as well.

"The team spirit's stood us in good stead throughout the season and I'm sure the lads will be back in tomorrow in a positive frame of mind. And with the LDV final coming up it's not all doom and gloom."

The skeleton crew left at the Racecourse had Easter weekend off and were due to report back for training today.

"We're hoping the likes of Steve Roberts, Alex Smith and Dean Bennett will be able to resume training," added Russell.

"Andy Dibble is due to have a scan on his thigh and Jim (Whitley) and big Brian (Carey) are having operations. Jim has his knee op on Wednesday and we won't assess how long he will be out until then."
