TWO artists claimed top prizes in a competition.

John Smout, of Ruabon, and Zenon Zamojski, of Wrexham, came first and second in the North Wales Open Art exhibition.

Their work will join more than 160 exhibits at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold, until August 20.

John won £1,000 for his landscape triptych (a work of art divided into three sections) in oil entitled Morning Mist and Zenon won £500 for his fine pen drawing of a ram, Swaledale Tup II.

Judge Simon Carter, senior partner at Aaron and Partners LLP Solicitors, said: “This exhibition is an annual highlight for many artists in the region and judging wasn’t easy because of the quality of entries.”
