A TALENTED teenage footballer from Wincham is hoping to make the grade after being picked out by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson from 1,000 hopefuls.
Mid-Cheshire College student Ross Farran, 17, won the chance to train with United coaches at the club’s Carrington training complex as part of Nike’s Most Wanted – a series of trials to find the best footballing talent in the UK.
Striker Ross, of Keats Lane, took part in a coaching session with legends Peter Reid and Ian Rush last Friday in Liverpool, and was one of two chosen to progress.
On Saturday he took part in a full 11-a-side match along with 21 other youngsters plucked from trials across the country, and was picked out by Sir Alex, along with three others, after impressing.
“It went really well,” he said. “I loved every minute of it, I wasn’t nervous at all.”
Ross, who plays for the unofficial Northwich Vics youth team at Mid-Cheshire College, also plays for England at futsal – five-a-side indoor football played with a smaller, heavier ball.
He added: “I’m hoping to get spotted. I just want that one chance, you never know what might happen.”
