BIG-HEARTED Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has made one of his fan’s dreams come true after kick starting the new fundraising year for five-year-old cancer victim Jacob Marsland.

The youngster is a huge Manchester United fan and was over the moon when Wayne’s assistant rang the family home on Kingsmead with the news that he wanted to help the plucky youngster.

Jacob’s mum Nicky said: “We got the phone call to say that Wayne had chosen the appeal as one of the four charities to receive the royalties from all his merchandising for 2007.’

The donation amounts to around £12,000 and has given the appeal an enormous lift bringing the total to approximately £40,000 in just three months.

Before Christmas Jacob spent a month in isolation undergoing intense radiation treatment at University College, London, and is due to return there next week for more scans, followed the week after by another trip to find out the all important results of the treatment.

Jacob was diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive cancer called neuroblastoma in March last year.

Fundraisers will also takepart in this summer’s British 10k London Run but more are wanted. To help please let the family knowvia www.jacobmarslandappeal.org
