"GREAT shame if this club goes under, No 78" - All the good young talent we have coming through.
I've been watching Levi Mackin closely since he made a startling sub appearance against Wycombe.
The young Welshman looks a good prospect and despite only being 19 he ran the show against Wycombe.
Levi is part of a conveyer belt that's currently churning out good young Welsh players.
I for one thought the ill-fated academy was a bad idea for a club of our size.
It cost a fortune to run and we weren't in a position to simply magic up good young players from somewhere to make it worthwhile. It was going to take time.
But now the admirable work being done by Steve Weaver at the Centre of Excellence is paying dividends. Just look at the side that comfortably beat Rushden last week.
Only three of the side were over 25, with the average age around 22. That proves the old proverb
"Crisis is just another word for opportunity".
Mike Ingham is a competent young keeper still learning his trade, Shaun Pejic is the sort of no-thrills defender everyone needs, Simon Spender is developing well on the right and Matt Crowell is starting to impose himself on games.
Add to this the talisman, local-born Mark Jones, and we have nucleus of a very good side in years to come.
Here's to the future... if the Football League lets us have one.
