Welshpool 1 Caersws 0

STEVE ROGERS bagged his 100th Welsh Premier goal as Welshpool made ground on the leaders with a battling victory over their Powys rivals.

The striker provided the game’s decisive moment on the half-hour when he nodded home from close range after Geraint Windsor’s cross from the right touchline had exposed the visiting defence.

With clear-cut chances in short supply on a sticky surface, one goal proved enough to keep Pool well-placed for European soccer, leaving their rivals looking over their shoulders.

Caersws found themselves on the back foot early as Pool enjoyed the bulk of possession in the first period only to squander the final pass.

But the visitors almost got back on terms when home keeper Ged McGuigan saved at the feet of Graham Evans, the ball eventually being cleared by Windsor amid claims the striker had been impeded.

Caersws, restricted to long-range efforts in the first half, proved more purposeful in the second period, but again lacked the cutting edge despite some promising positions.
