DOZENS of people have voiced their opposition to a plot of land in Sandiway being short-listed as a permanent site for Travellers.

According to locals, the land beside Blakemere Craft Centre used to be part of the adjacent woodland until it was mysteriously cleared of trees some years ago.

About 70 people attended a meeting of Cuddington and Sandiway Parish Council to express their concerns which ranged from traffic congestion to the situation of a Travellers’ site next to one of Cheshire’s top tourist attractions.

Vale Royal Borough councillor Val Godfrey said the borough council was duty- bound to provide sites for Travellers and there were four currently on the short list, including one in Frodsham and two in Winsford.

The parish council agreed to set up a meeting with representatives of the borough council to discuss the matter further.

Notification of the meeting will be sent to residents living near the proposed site.

Residents can also take part in the online consultation at www.valeroyal.gov.uk.
