FUNDRAISERS in Cuddington and Sandiway are determined to press ahead with plans for a village hall despite another rejection from the lottery.

Their original bid for funding made national headlines when lotto bosses turned it down for reasons including a lack of refugees and asylum seekers in the community.

However this time around they were much more hopeful after slashing their request for funding from £500,000 to £160,0000.

Denis Kidd, chairman of the village hall committee, said: “This time it seems they turned us down because they needed to have an even spread of applications throughout the country and of varying types, and for some reason we didn’t fit into this.

“We were very disappointed at first but after discussing it among ourselves we are now more determined than ever to get the hall built with money already allocated which comes to just over £300,0000.

“It means we will have to scale down the project, but we will still have a fine building at the end of it.”

Vale Royal Borough Council has already pledged £250,000 providing match funding can be found, and another £25,000 had been promised from WREN.

The rest of the cash has come from a variety of community efforts ranging from dances to car boot sales.

Mr Kidd added: ‘We will have to find out from Vale Royal and WREN whether they are happy with our ideas and also whether we need to renew our planning application, but if all goes well we should have the hall ready for use some time next year.’

The hall will be built on the Norley Road Playing Fields and replace the old pavilion which was expected to last just 20 years when it was erected 50 years ago.
