RESIDENTS and businesses are urged to get involved in the future planning of Ellesmere Port town centre.

Cheshire West and Chester Council planners finalising a consultation paper on preferred options for the Central Ellesmere Port Area Action Plan want to hear the public’s views.

The Action Plan identifies vacant and under-used sites in need of major redevelopment, such as Cromwell Road and Meadow Lane.

The council has suggested potential uses for these sites including housing, offices and industrial uses, but needs to hear from residents on these ideas and matters around transport, recreation and shopping.

Public consultation was carried out last year to understand the issues facing central Ellesmere Port and the options for dealing with them. This information was then used to help prepare the report.

As well as calling for public feedback, the council will be holding a focus group from 6-9pm on Monday, April 20.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Gemma Jones on 0151 356 6504 for venue details. Planning officers will be on hand to answer questions.

Jan Beaumont, regional manager of Planning Aid which is running the focus group, said: “Local authorities now have to actively consult local people and communities on planning and development.

“We can support people in playing a more effective role in the planning process, particularly on issues affecting local areas and neighbourhoods and we are pleased to be involved with the consultations in Ellesmere Port.”
