NUISANCE teenagers are making life a misery for people in Barnton, a resident claims.

The father-of-one, who lives on Nursery Road, says the “hooligans” go on the rampage every weekend, damaging cars and littering the streets with empty cans and bottles from their late night booze sessions.

“It’s been going on for between 18 months and two years,” said the man, who asked not to be named. “We’ve had loads of bother.”

The gangs of up to 20 boys and girls, aged between 15 and 18, congregate on Nursery Road and in the nearby woods next to the canal and footbridge until as late as 2am.

The dad said: “Every Sunday morning I have to go out and clear up after them. They leave cans and broken glass bottles all over the place – it looks like a dumping ground.”

The furious resident told the Chronicle the yobs:

Kick wing mirrors and rip aerials off cars.

Smoke cannabis on the street.

Urinate on cars, gates and fences.

Shout swear words and abuse anyone who challenges them.

The man added: “I’ve found condom packets, a bag of skunk and even a knife after they’ve been there. And I don’t even park outside my house anymore in case it gets damaged.

“I’ve been out and tried to disperse them myself – and get a mouthful of abuse – but I’ve been told by the police I can’t take the law into my own hands.

“But something has to be done – we’ve had enough.”
