REPORTS of an attempted child abduction outside an Ellesmere Port primary school last week proved to be a false alarm, police say.
Cheshire Constabulary says it conducted a full investigation following allegations of ‘suspicious activity’ taking place outside Whitby Heath Primary School.
Worried parents had posted concerns on social networking websites that a ‘scruffy man’ had approached a child who was walking to school with their parent last Thursday.
But police say that, although the incident ‘understandably caused concern’ among the schools in the area, no attempts were made to snatch a child or coerce a child into conversation.
A spokesman for the Cheshire Constabulary said: “Detectives have fully investigated this matter and can now confirm that no criminal offences were committed.
“The constabulary take any reports of this nature seriously and will fully investigate any report of suspicious behaviour committed near educational establishments. We would advise all parents/guardians to have an awareness of their child’s personal safety and to offer guidance regarding stranger danger to schoolchildren.”
