FOUR historic buildings in the Wrexham area are to share more than £116,000 in Welsh Assembly Government grants.

The Ladies’ Monument, St Collen’s Churchyard, Llangollen will get £14,000 toward works to repair and consolidate stonework and railings.

St Giles Church, Wrexham, gets £18,000 for repairs to the parapet stonework, St Mary’s Church, Ruabon, has been awarded £48,800 toward the re-slating of roofs, renewal of leadwork and repointing of stonework and Iscoyd Park, Iscoyd, Whitchurch, scooped £36,000 toward a scheme of repairs including remedial works to the cellar and brickwork and window repairs.

North Wales Plaid Cymru AM Janet Ryder said: “These projects have succeeded because community groups care enough about our history and identity to want to safeguard it for the future.”
