ENCORE - formerly Ellesmere Port Light Opera Company - is looking ahead to an exciting year.

And it has appointed a new producer and musical director for its May production of Salad Days.

Producer Susan Oldfield has been performing and directing in the region for many years, most recently with Vale Royal Amateur Operatic Society.

Although Salad Days is new to Susan, she is looking forward to working with Encore and the new production team.

New musical director Daniel Wright, from Rock Ferry AOS, has already started the task of teaching the chorus some of the big show numbers.

Encore is now looking for new members to join for Salad Days, as there are many parts to be cast, as well as a lot of dancing to be choreographed.

This means there will be plenty for everyone to be involved with, whatever their level of experience.

Open auditions for named parts will be held next month – provisionally February 17 – but everyone interested is encouraged to come along to rehearsals as soon as possible to meet the cast and production team, and hear more about the show.

The story, which is set in London in the 1950s, centres on a young couple, Timothy and Jane, fresh from university.

While wondering what to do with their lives they are offered the loan of a piano for a month.

The piano turns out to have a remarkable effect on everyone who hears it, and the story follows Timothy and Jane’s adventures with it as they meet many different characters.

Anyone interested in joining Encore for the chorus, named parts, or even backstage, should phone Gill on 0151 327 6509, Glenys on 0151 347 1079, or just come along to a rehearsal at Trinity Methodist Church Hall, Whitby Road, Ellesmere Port on Wednesdays from 7.30-9.30pm.
