FAMILIES in Cheshire West and Chester have the chance to get fit and explore nature this spring, thanks to a festival of local guided woodland walks taking place throughout May.

Walk in the Woods month in The Mersey Forest features a range of free, local countryside walks suitable for all ages and fitness levels. From relaxing health walks at Whitby Park, to a bluebell nature walk at Rivacre Valley Local Nature Reserve in Ellesmere Port, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The festival is part of the Tree Council’s national Walk in the Woods month, with thousands of people due to take part in guided walks taking place across the country. The local events have been organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Frodsham Town Council, and the Friends of Anderton and Marbury, with the programme coordinated by The Mersey Forest, the growing network of woodlands and green spaces being created across Merseyside and North Cheshire.

The programme of walks is available at www.merseyforest.org.uk/walkinthewoods or by calling 01925 816217.

ŠAs well as these guided walks taking place in May, nature lovers can explore the local area at their leisure all summer, thanks to free maps and walk direction packs available from www.discoverthemerseyforest.co.uk.
