BARCLAYS staff are waiting to hear whether they have been made redundant after the global bank announced 400 job cuts.

Employees at the Radbroke Hall site near Knutsford, many of them from Northwich and Winsford, will find out if they are to be laid off in next few weeks.

It comes after the bank announced a review of its IT operations will lead to 158 permanent staff and 250 contractor positions being made redundant.

Although sites in London, Northampton and Poole are also expected to suffer, a substantial number of posts will be lost at the picturesque Radbroke Hall site.

A source told The Chronicle it was feared a third of staff working in project management would be made redundant.

The bank is holding one-to-one sessions with employees whose jobs are at risk this week.

Barclays has said it would try to mitigate compulsory redundancies by releasing contractors, closing vacancies and offering staff the chance to reapply for other jobs.
