WREXHAM have tied up an agreement to host Premiership giants Liverpool's reserve side next season - and it could help safeguard the Dragons' future at the Racecourse.

The Reds have decided to play second-string games in North Wales after ending a similar deal with Chester City, ironically because Rafael Benitez's side chose to play a friendly with the Dragons instead of the newly-promoted League Two side.

And the deal appears to have come at the right time. With a decision on the club's future at the Racecourse imminent, Reames believes such deals are vital in keeping the Dragons at their spiritual home.

Reames said yesterday: "We reached an agreement with chief executive Rick Parry and we'll have a further meeting next week to thrash out the details.

"Everything is agreed in principle and it will more or less be the same arrangement that Liverpool had with Chester."

The deal at Chester is believed to have seen the Deva Stadium club take the gate receipts with the Reds paying a small amount for use of the ground for each match, around £1,000.

Both Chester and Liverpool's season ticket holders got in free, while the Deva side picked up the ground bills such as floodlights and stewarding.

However Reames is hoping the prestige of holding Liverpool matches will have a knock-on effect for Wrexham, with increased use of the ground making it more likely that the Dragons will stay at their current home.

He said: "There are a lot of Liverpool fans in North Wales and hopefully they will come to the ground and see what we have to offer.

"It's all about trying to get them interested in Wrexham as well.

"To have a team of Liverpool's reputation wanting to use the Racecourse just reinforces our position as the top sporting venue in North Wales.

"We've got a big meeting with the council on Tuesday where we will discuss either switching around the ground on it's current site or relocating.

"After that meeting we will reach a decision by the end of August about what we are going to do.

"Of course we want to remain at the Racecourse

and deals like this are making it more possible that we can. We understand why every Wrexham fans wants to stay at the Racecourse, things like this make it more possible."

Meanwhile, the Dragons will announce the signing of a new right-sided player today to cover the injured Carlos Edwards.
