A DOZEN riders launched Weaver Valley CC’s first ever track championship at the Manchester Velodrome on Thursday. Chas Readman was the first title winner.

Run on an omnium basis over a 500m TT, 3km TT and a 5km scratch race.

Quickest 500m rider over 500m was from the fifth of the six heats, Readman, who clocked 39.70secs. Dave McKay 40.05 and Ross Parker 40.09 were closest to him.

McKay moved up to the front in the 3km trial, his 4:03.81 giving two seconds top spare on Readman with Nick Butterworth third.

The 5km scratch races were won by John Chrystal and Readman, who topped the overall standings: Readman 4pts, Butterworth, McKay 8, Alan Kemp 15, Mark Adshead, Ross Parker 16, Chrystal 21, Steve Thomas 23, Kevin Underhill 25, Max Taylor 30, Eleanor Underhill, Dave Astles 34.

Winnington based Carl Ruethbotham won the Manchester and District TTA 10mile at Goostrey on Saturday.

The British Salt Team Swift rider clocked 22:25 to win by 20 seconds.
