A RARE crocodile skink which was seized by customs at Heathrow Airport earlier this year has given birth at Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port.

The bizarre-looking lizard was part of a consignment of illegally imported reptiles that were intercepted by customs officials.

As it was impossible to return them to the wild, it was decided that the female skink, along with a male, should be re-homed at the award-winning aquarium near Cheshire Oaks.

Blue Planet herpetologist Jo Chattell said: “The baby is doing extremely well and growing quickly and we’re all very pleased with its progress.”
