THE rainbow flag will fly above Ellesmere Port Civic Hall for International Day Against Homophobia on Thursday.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is also supporting the free Love Music Hate Homophobia event, being held at Chester’s Guildhall on Saturday, May 19, from 2-6pm.

There will be live music, community stands providing advice and information, competitions and a licensed bar, tea room and face-painting.

The day has been organised by the University of Chester with Chester Students’ Union, Cheshire police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Body Positive Cheshire and North Wales, the Lesbian and Gay Foundation and LGBT Youth North West. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.

The council’s equality and diversity champion, Cllr Razia Daniels, who will speak at the Love Music Hate Homophobia event, said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council strives to create a borough where everyone can enjoy an environment that is inclusive, respectful and free from victimisation and hate.”

The council will also mark IDAHO day by flying the rainbow flag at their HQ in Chester and at other council buildings across the borough.

Cllr Daniels added: “Raising the flag will be a public demonstration of our commitment to equality and celebrating our diverse communities.”
