Girls from the reception class at The Queen’s Lower School had an exciting adventure in the forest.

After playing in the school’s own mud kitchen and foraging for branches and den building in the school grounds, the group took a trip to Delamere Forest to see nature on a different scale.

The day involved numerous tasks for the group of four and five-year-old girls who made a house of sticks using different sized branches, which they then ensured was wind and waterproof by using leaf litter bricks.

They also created some forest faces and characters on the trees using only things they could find on the ground.

Hard at work

More exploring in the forest included climbing up the tree house, scrambling over the obstacle course, swinging in the hammock and playing some musical instruments.

One of the highlights of the day was listening to and watching a busy woodpecker at work, who was also busy making a house for himself.

Finally, the day ended with toasting marshmallows round the fire.
