Members of the Queen’s Park High School council welcomed Shaun Williams, one of the founders of the charity 3rd World Hope, to present a cheque for £1384.08 which was the result of their fundraising for the charity in the academic year 2013-14.

Mrs Scanlon, director of learning 14-19 who works with the school council explained “each year, the school council select a charity based on nominations by staff and students and last year, the excellent work that 3rd World Hope was doing in Malawi really struck a chord with the students who wanted to help other young people get support for their own education and really got behind the charity.”

Students raised money through a non-uniform day, charity fundraising events by each tutor group on a dedicated charity day, a bake sale for the staff and the annual V Factor show which was won by year 7 student Louis Frier.

Shaun from 3rd World Hope said “Everyone involved in 3rd World Hope is greatly appreciative of the support from Queen’s Park High School over the last year.

“Their dedication and passion for helping those less fortunate is inspirational.

“The huge amount raised will be used to help set up our new library in Malawi. The library will have solar power with access to computers with syllabuses installed. This will assist the students at our new school as well as making education accessible to the wider community in the area.”
