A WREXHAM-based housing site manager is celebrating his first success in an industry-wide competition.

After 12 years in charge of building work at Redrow developments in Cheshire and North Wales, Gareth Wynne has won a coveted ‘Quality’ award in the National House-Building Council’s (NHBC) annual Pride in the Job initiative.

He must now wait until October to find out if he has earned the even more sought-after Seal of Excellence, which would put him in the top 100 site managers UK wide.

The 37-year-old has been recognised for his work at Ty Newydd, off Mold Road, in Wrexham.

One of only 400 site managers from 18,000 across the UK to win a NHBC Quality award in 2008, Gareth’sŠ achievement reflects the calibre of his site management, including technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and leadership skills.

Gareth, who lives in Mold with his wide Caerys and children, Katie, 11 and Liam, six, has been with Redrow for more than 15 years.

Originally an electrician by trade, he joined Redrow as a trainee assistant manager and has been one of their site managers for around 12 years.

He said: “I’ve previously been successful in Local Authority Building Control awards but this is my first NHBC Quality award, which is a national competition and probably the one that all site managers want to win.ŠThis year I was determined and focussed to progress further and fortunately all the hard work as paid off.

“Much of it is down to having a good strong team around me and the support of the company and my peers.”

Gareth will attend a presentation in Cardiff on October 10.
