WREXHAM'S squad will be stretched to the limit for this Saturday's duel with basement boys Wycombe Wanderers.

When the Mail went to press earlier this week, manager Denis Smith was sweating on the fitness of NINE first-team players.

Former England and Arsenal legend Tony Adams, now Wycombe manager, is sure to be buoyed by the news.

Smith, meanwhile, is warning his players to expect a tough match, even though Wycombe have won just two of their 18 league matches this season.

'We would never take anything for granted anyway,' said Smith. 'But apart from our injuries, they have got a new manager and will be fired up to get a result for him.'

Earlier this week, Chris Llewellyn (dead leg), Paul Whitfield (stomach), Brian Carey (ankle), Shaun Holmes (groin), Paul Barrett (knee), Darren Ferguson (knee), Lee Jones (calf), Stephen Thomas (hamstring) and Stephen Roberts (dead leg) were under treatment.

Smith told our sister paper, the Daily Post: 'We are being stretched to the limit. I haven't got a clue when any of them will be fit.

'Stephen Roberts, for instance - the physio thought he would be OK for last Tuesday night, but he still wasn't in training earlier this week.

'The one good thing is that we've had a week off at last with no game.'

Wrexham will be determined to return to winning ways after last Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Luton Town, which saw Darren Ferguson sent off for retaliation.

The Dragons skipper now faces a three-month ban and has been fined by Smith.
