PUPILS brought the plains of Africa in to the classroom by designing their own colourful rhino.

Creative children from Westminster Community Primary School, Ellesmere Port, ran a competition in class as part of Chester Zoo’s Rhino Mania initiative for the most original and eye-catching design.

To help inspire the children, Becca Biddle, safari ranger from Chester Zoo, called in and cast an expert eye over the groups’ ideas.

Deputy headteacher, Caroline Marshall, said: “In December the whole school, staff and many parents visited Chester Zoo.

“We have been involved in Rhino Mania and held a ‘Design the Rhino’ competition. The winner and two runners up painted the Rhino.

“Our PTA has since agreed to adopt a black rhino from the World Wild Life Fund.”
