Grateful children gathered at the official opening of a new courtyard at Guilden Sutton Primary School.

Reception teacher Sue Heywood and her excited class welcomed some of the  parent helpers that gave up their spare time to transform the outside play area used by the Key Stage 1 pupils.

Old toys and a soggy sandpit were swept away in favour of  bright new equipment and a  covered shaded Astroturf play area – ensuring that the  children can enjoy the space in all weathers.

Headteacher Kathy Crowe,  said: “We are extremely grateful to the parents who  spent many weekends and  hours after school giving a  very tired looking outdoor  area a complete revamp.

“It looks completely different now with its lovely new sand pit, mural, willow dome and Astroturf to name but few of the new features.”

The project was masterminded by parent Clare McEnery who used her specialist creative gardening  skills to bring the courtyard  to life.

Miss Crowe added:  “Reception Class are delighted with the results, as are the staff.

“It will be a source of great pleasure for our children for years to come. A big thank you to all involved.”
