A BIG fundraising effort by pupils of Barkers Lane Community Primary School raised £600.

The pupils held collections at their Christmas concerts and audience members were more than happy to give generously.

The school shared the funds between Hope House Children's Hospices, St John's Church and itself with each receiving £200.

Menai Owen-Jones, appeals organiser for Hope House, attended morning assembly to accept the cheque and thanked all the pupils for their hard work and support.

'I would like to express my thanks to the school, to parents, families and friends for their generosity,' she said.

'We really do rely on the kindness of supporters like them, as 95% of our annual running costs must be raised from voluntary donations.'
