PUPILS have been learning about road safety and getting fit in the process thanks to their Police Community Support Officer.
Children in year three and four at Little Sutton Primary School have been taking part in the Let’s Walk initiative with PCSO Mary Didsbury.
The 10-week programme involved pupils completing workbooks and learning about road safety by going on class walks.
PCSO Didsbury said: “I completed a one-day course with the road safety unit so I could carry out the scheme in the school.
“The pupils enjoyed it and have developed skills like map reading as well as learning to stay safe on the roads.
“Taking part in the programme has also helped me to develop the already good relationship we have with the school, pupils and parents.”
Let’s Walk is a training scheme from Cheshire West and Chester Council’s road safety unit.
The programme aims to prepare children to become confident, safe road users and increase their knowledge of the road through practical activities and written work.
It also encourages parents to walk to school with their children, reducing traffic and congestion outside school and improving fitness.
