PUPILS of Chirk infants and Pentre School learnt more about firework and bonfire safety by taking part in a poster competition ran by the local fire station.

All the children at both schools were invited to take part in the competition, which required them to decorate a poster warning of the dangers of fireworks.

Four pupils from Chirk Infants and three from Pentre School were judged to be the winners, and were presented with fleece jackets featuring the Bonfire Safety emblem, sponsored by Chirk Young Firefighters Association.

Andy Scarratt, watch manager, Chirk Fire Station, said: “We had an excellent standard of entries, and the pupils enjoyed taking part in the competition and learning more about fire safety at the same time.

“This is a great opportunity for us to engage with the community and make sure children know all about fire safety rules from a young age.”
