THERE has been a steady flow of visitors to view the Neston town centre redevelopment plans.

The borough council arranged special drop-in sessions at the Blackwell Building behind the town hall over the last two weeks.

Plans and artist’s impressions were on display and visitors were able to discuss the recent planning application with planning officers.

The application covers plans for a new town square, a supermarket and new decked car parking.

Proposals for 14 new residential units and community facility units are also included.

Paul Friston, the borough council’s principal planning officer said: “We have seen a steady flow of interest in the exhibition. People have called in to discuss a variety of topics connected with the planning application and there is a wide range of views being expressed.

“Many of the comments relate to potential disruption during the construction period along with traffic and car parking issues.”

He added: “It is expected that further planning applications for a temporary market on Brook Street and proposals for additional parking on the Belmont Cottage site will be submitted shortly.

“It is important the people put their comments in writing for Planning Committee to make the final decision.”

The consultation period for this major application is longer than usual. The closing date for comments is Friday, April 11.

During the remainder of the consultation period the planning application will be available in the following locations: Neston Town Hall, Neston Library and the council offices at Civic Way, Ellesmere Port.

All comments on the planning application must be received in writing and will be made public. There is a dedicated link to the planning application and a comments form on the council website homepage at www.epnbc.gov.uk.

Letters should be addressed to: Planning Department, Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, 4 Civic Way, Ellesmere Port, CH65 0BE. Please quote the planning reference: P/2008/118 on all letters or comments.
