WINNINGTON Park 2nds and 3rds both won at home to clinch promotion.

They are both runners up – the 2nds in North West Division Five South, where they beat Wrexham 2nds 5-2 and the 3rds in Division Eight South, where they bested Bramhall 4th 2-1.

But the senior side containing five teenagers were beaten 3-2 at Wrexham.

But they started well. Steve Campagnaro robbed his opposite number and burst clear, Pete Evans efficiently putting away his cross.

The visitors were denied a penalty stroke when the goalbound ball appeared to strike a Wrexham defender on the foot. The hosts equalised soon after.

Attacking midfielder Alistair Buckle put in a man of the match performance and almost put Park in front again.

He and Evans linked well and the youngster was denied twice in quick succession by the home keeper.

They were behind shortly after the restart but Evans then drilled a penalty corner into the net and there was plenty of time left on the clock.

New centre back pairing Dan Jones and Karl Kueres restricted Wrexham to very few chances with some assured defending. Winnington conceded no short corners in the entire match and had seven of their own.

But they lost to a freak goal, a mis-hit looping over John Paul Dodd in goal, though Evans came close to equalising late on.
