OBJECTORS argue a pedestrian crossing is in the wrong place.
The Puffin was put forward on Rivacre Road near the junctions with Warren Drive and Meadow Park last November.
It is funded through a legal agreement with developers Bellway in connection with a housing scheme on Netherpool Road.
Traffic engineers had three objections, one acting on behalf of a number of other local residents.
All three said few people cross the road in that area despite the fact it has central refuges.
They asked for clarification of any survey results justifying a crossing being provided.
Residents argued the crossing is in the wrong place and will cause difficulties for people reaching their driveways.
Two of the objectors also insisted the issue which needs to be dealt with on Rivacre Road is speeding traffic and this will not be affected by the crossing.
One pointed out local schools are experiencing a drop in pupil numbers.
“It seems pointless spending money on a crossing that is barely used,” it was suggested.
Traffic engineers argued that with over 500 vehicles an hour consideration could be given to one as it would be close to the new housing development. Councillors authorised engineers to go ahead with the scheme.
