A PROFESSOR who ran 1,500 miles from Rome to Glasgow and held a senior university leadership position in South Africa has returned to Wales to take up a post at Glyndwr University.

Professor Neil Garrod has been appointed as director of enterprise and civic engagement to lead the development of the university’s activities in engaging with the community.

Prof Garrod joins Glyndwr University from Thames Valley University, where he was deputy vice-chancellor from 2004.

He returns to Wales having previously been a lecturer in business finance at Aberystwyth University and later as professor of accounting and finance at Bangor University.

“It’s wonderful to be back in Wales and it’s really exciting to be joining a new university,” said Prof Garrod. “I’ve missed Wales ever since I left in 1993 and this job at this time in the university’s development is an opportunity I didn’t want to miss.”
