BRITISH Transport Police has launched a major investigation after a teenager suffered electrical burns on a Widnes railway line.

The incident happened at 7.55pm, on Friday near a bridge close to Widnes railway station in Victoria Avenue.

The 15-year-old boy was taken by paramedics to Whiston Hospital’s burns unit where he was detained before being transferred to Alder Hey children’s hospital.

Police believe the boy was with two other youths at the time of the incident.

Officers are appealing for witnesses, who may have seen the incident or noticed youths in the area at the time, to come forward.

The youth suffered electrical burns to his hands but his injuries are not described as life threatening.

Police say their investigation is “ongoing”.
