POPULAR fashion chain Primark opened its doors in Chester on Tuesday.

A steady queue of shoppers had formed prior to the 9am launch as they waited excitedly for the unveiling of the Foregate Street store, which was previously occupied by Woolworths.

The opening brings to an end 15 months of work behind the scenes on the store since the planning application was first submitted in December 2008.

Director Breege O’Donoghue said: “This vibrant store represents the modern Primark, offering our customers a full selection of the most exciting and distinctive new fashion collections for women, men and children complete with key ranges of accessories, shoes, jewellery and beauty.

“Chester provides an ideal location for Primark as it meets our requirements for store locations and is a popular destination.”
