FROM next September midday meals served at primary and high schools in Cheshire will cost the same.

A two-course primary school meal will go up by 10p to £1.90.

And a two-course meal, with larger portions and a wide range of menus, in high schools will be £2.05.

“We all know how food and fuel costs continue to rise which makes it inevitable that the price of a school meal will also increase,” said executive member for children’s services David Rowlands.

“Cheshire has always charged the same price for meals in secondary schools as for primary school meals but this is changing because portions are larger and the range of food in school cash cafeterias is wider.”

He added: “CBS Catering devises menus that meet the Government’s nutritional guidelines for food in schools and all the food purchased comes from reputable suppliers.

“We aim to source local food and we are currently exploring options for using even more local produce in our menus.”
