LEADERS Prestatyn Town, eight points clear at the top, are likely to be without player/manager Neil Gibson and striker Jon Fisher-Cooke for today’s test at rejuvenated Gap Queen’s Park.

Gibson is a definite non-starter as he serves out a two-match ban, while former Rhyl marksman Fisher-Cooke remains doubtful with a pulled hamstring injury.

But experienced defender Jack Lewis and midfielder Michael Parker are both available after shaking off injuries.

Against Queen’s Park last season Prestatyn ran up wins of 11-1 at home and 7-1 away, but assistant manager Martyn Jones has warned his side to expect a far tougher reception this time.

“They are a very different proposition now and are holding seventh place, so we are preparing for a demanding test,” he said.

“We are going well but there’s still a long path to travel and we must make sure there are no slip-ups.”

Glantraeth, having recovered from a dreadful start to the season, have revenge in mind today when they host Mynydd Isa, writes Keith Evans.

Paul Whelan’s team were kicked out of the Welsh Cup by Mynydd in the first round back in September.

Glantraeth, now on a high after earning nine points out of 12, reckon they are well equipped to settle the score.

Whelan has brought in three signings, keeper Gareth Roberts and striker Gareth Wyn Roberts, both from Bodedern, and full-back Jonathan Peris Jones from Porthmadog.

Whelan said: “In addition to the arrival of new players, we have switched things around a bit and the result is the lads are really playing well.

“What we do lack is someone to put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis.”

Forward Rob Williams, missing because of flu last week, will resume and fitness tests are planned for midfielders Nigel Barry and Emyr Rowlands.

Buckley Town boss Simon Sedgwick, whose side visit Llandyrnog United today, admitted he was close to resigning over his side’s slump, writes John Bridgwater.

The Globe Way men continue to languish deep in danger following last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat to Llanfairpwll.

“It would have been easy to walk away but I’m a Buckley lad and no-one wants the team to win more than me,” he said. “It’s my team and my players and we need to stick together.”
