TODDLERS could have been killed after a preschool plagued by vandals was struck again.
A year ago, yobs trashed the toy store and play area at St Saviour’s preschool in Seacombe Drive, Great Sutton, twice in five days.
Then, the play area was left unusable in the wake of the destruction wreaked by the youths.
Angela Halpin, who helps run the pre-school, said the damage was spotted on a routine morning check.
She said: “This time they tried to take the big Little Tikes slide apart.
“We came into school on Monday to find the top of the slide hanging off but luckily for us the caretaker managed to secure it back on.
“It could have quite easily fallen on one of the children. It could have seriously injured them or killed them.
“It took three of us to lift it up and get it back on. It is very heavy duty plastic.
“They also tried to burn the other slide.
“I go up to Blacon quite a lot where they leave everything out and nothing ever gets touched. It’s just mindless.
“We understand there’s nowhere for them to go and we don’t mind them coming and sitting round.
“A few times in the summer holidays we’ve seen them and said as long as you don’t damage anything we don’t mind.
“We’re right by the brook and we have them sitting there and you can smell they’re smoking something. They’ve made dens right by the fence.”
Last February the garage was broken into, with £1,000 worth of damage caused; marijuana joints and cigarette butts were discarded on the premises; toilet paper was strewn across the playground; hanging baskets were stolen; the washing line was pulled down and burnt and a bamboo fence was destroyed.
