POLICE were called to the Post Office in Mill Street, Prees shortly before 7am on Saturday following reports of a break-in.

Three men are believed to have broken into the store and stolen an amount of cash, in Sterling and Euros, before making off in a silver Audi A3 car, possibly a 55-plate registration.

A member of staff at the store disturbed the offenders after arriving at the Post Office to see the Audi parked at the rear with one man inside.

Two others then ran from the store and a scuffle ensued between the staff member and the offenders, before she was pushed aside and all three made off in the car.

The police were then immediately alerted. The member of staff was shaken but not injured.

A silver Audi was reported to have been seen driving along the A41 towards Whitchurch at high speed shortly after the offence. An area search was carried out for the vehicle but it was not found.

Detectives from Market Drayton CID are investigating the burglary and appealed for anyone who might have witnessed suspicious persons or vehicles, including a silver Audi, in the area at the time or in the days leading up to the offence to contact them on 08457 444888.

CCTV in the area is being examined as part of the enquiry.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
