BANGOR CITY boss Neville Powell hasn’t given up on tonight’s Uefa Cup tie despite his side trailing 6-1 from the first leg.

City face FC Midtjylland in Denmark (6pm) with little chance of progressing from the first qualifying round following a second-half collapse in the home leg at the Raceourse two weeks ago.

Powell said: “It’s obviously going to be very hard for us in Denmark but, with a bit of luck, you never know – we might score a few goals.

“It would be easy for me to perhaps pack the defence with five or six players but we are going there with the intention of playing our normal game.”

He added: “We should definitely be better because we are two weeks more advanced in our training.”

Bangor go into tonight’s game on the back of a 3-1 win against Conference North side Vauxhall Motors last Saturday.

Meanwhile, The New Saints will look to make history tonight by progressing in European competition for the first time, writes John Bridgwater.

TNS face FK Suduva in their Uefa Cup tie at Newtown’s Latham Park (6.45pm) having lost 1-0 in the first leg two weeks ago.

Last year, also at Newtown, they beat FK Ventspils 3-2 in the Champions League, their first win in Europe, only to bow out on away goals.

Coach Mike Davies said: “We can take confidence from winning at Newtown last year, but another 3-2 win wouldn’t be enough so we need to go one better than that.”

Midfielder John Leah is the main injury worry, but striker Alfie Carter should play some part.
