A VILLAGE post office will close next month if a new postmaster cannot be found.
Cuddington Post Office, on Trickett Lane, will be without a postmaster from February 9 following Robert Dickenson’s decision to step down after 20 years.
The branch is not one of those in Mid Cheshire proposed for closure but a spokeswoman for Post Office Ltd admitted it would be shut down temporarily “if no one can be found to take over the running of it”.
Mr Dickenson, who tendered his resignation early last year, said: “I would much prefer to see someone come in and keep it going. We have been very happy here and I think the village would appreciate the post office continuing.”
He added: “There have been people interested.”
Vale Royal Borough councillor David Parks-Smith, who represents Cuddington, said: “The branch has a lot of support, is very heavily used and should carry on. I’ll be happy just as long as they find someone.”
Post Office Ltd has moved to allay fears the branch will be closed permanently.
Spokeswoman Jeanette Donovan said: “We are keen to maintain services in the Cuddington area and would welcome any applications from potential retail partners interested in running the branch.”
Anyone interested in the vacancy can contact the Post Office’s recruitment team on 0845 601 6260.
