PORTHMADOG scoring ace Matthew Hughes did things his way when he hit all the goals in a 3-1 win over neighbours Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs to start his side’s President’s Cup campaign, writes Keith Evans.

Hughes scored on 15, 68 and 76 minutes, while Blaenau managed only one reply, from Kieron Ellis after 17.

Bontnewydd and Holyhead Hotspur also booked passage to the cup’s semi-finals but had to settle for 1-0 victories over Beaumaris Town and Llangefni Town respectively.

Bontnewydd’s match-winner was provided by Dylan Parry just after half-time, while Holyhead looked to Ian Hughes for their goal on the hour.

Barmouth and Dyffryn United, losing finalists last season, saw their home tie with Bethel postponed.

In the league, Sion Campbell and Darren Rowlands hit two each as Gaerwen trounced Real Llandudno 5-0. Llanfairfechan Town came from behind to beat Bangor University 2-1.
